Creative Direction, Concept development, Experience Design

I’m a Senior Creative, Designer and Artist with an extensive background in Concept Development and Experience Design. I thrive at rapidly generating original and unprecedented concepts for digital, physical and hybrid experiences.

I have substantial experience in bringing ideas to life and communicating them in simple and compelling ways - drawing / painting / storytelling / comping / prototyping / deck building / copywriting / pitching, etc. I’m a thinker and a doer.

Throughout my career I've served as Director of Innovation, Creative Director, Senior UX designer, Senior Creative and Senior Creative Developer. A breadth of experience and expertise gives me the unique ability to communicate, collaborate and lead multidisciplinary teams.

Skills

Concept Development: Throughout all of my titles and roles, ideation has always been my strongest suit.

Creative Direction: Hands-on, decisive and strategic with good communication skills. When collaborating with others I try to give the most actionable direction and feedback possible. “Go fish” is not in my vocabulary.

Experience Design: A breadth of expertise, ranging through digital, physical, organizational & hybrid experiences - spanning; sports arenas, governmental institutions, museums, exhibits, immersive installations and web experiences.

Illustration: I’m handy with a pencil, marker or stylus; sketching, storyboarding, paper prototyping, generating quick flows - physical or digital. I’m also decent at producing more high fidelity illustrations and comping in Adobe products.

Writing: I’m strong at communicating concepts, experiences, strategy and rationale in clear and compelling ways. I’ve written many copy decks.

Presentation: Keynote speaker? not so much.. but with a solid concept and a clean deck, I shine.

Design Thinking: At IDEO, I’ve collaborated with teams, start-to-end, throughout the Design Thinking process. E.g., Research > synthesis > opportunity areas > brainstorming > prototype > test, etc.

Human Centered Design: At IDEO, I’ve collaborated with teams, start-to-end through the phases and activities of the HCD process. E.g. research, interviews, workshops / co-creation, synthesis, creating personas, defining opportunity areas, ideation, testing.. etc,

User Experience: My aptitudes lie in a broader purview, yet I’m 100% capable of diving in and generating wireframes, user flows and prototypes - whatever it takes to get the ball across the line. Adobe, Figma, software du jour.

Visual Design: Though a tertiary skill, I have hands-on experience with branding, layout and package design. I have a clean aesthetic and can pop out a nice deck in short order.

Creative Development: I cut my teeth in SF has a Senior Creative Developer. In the old days of Flash (Macromedia), I built dozens of complicated interactive, animated experiences driven by object oriented programming. I also have some experience with C and Python. I understand and can communicate with technologists.

Physical Computing: Mostly a hobby, but I've built numerous, complex projects with Arduino, raspberry PI, LEDs, stepper motors, heart sensors and EEG brainwave headsets.

Sound Design: A fair bit of experience with audio software (Logic), synths and composition. I have an ear and can direct.

Fabrication: Practically born in a workshop - son of a builder. I can build in wood, plexiglass, metal, etc.
